Commercial EV charger installation for workplaces, fleets and car parks

Rossair installs EV charging for commercial sites - staff and visitor bays, fleet depots, schools, care homes and multi-site estates. We assess the supply, design the load management, handle the DNO application and install and commission the chargers with our own NICEIC-registered engineers, so the car park, the plant room and the incoming supply are planned as one job.

What we deliver

Workplace and fleet EV charging, from supply assessment to commissioning

Most commercial EV projects fail at the supply, not the charger. A row of 22 kW chargers can exceed the spare capacity of a building’s incoming supply, and a charger that trips the main switch is worse than no charger. Rossair starts with a load assessment of the existing supply and the building’s demand profile, then designs the charging to fit: dynamic load management that shares available capacity across the bays, a supply upgrade where the business case supports it, and the DNO application handled in-house. Chargers are specified to the use - 7 kW and 22 kW AC for staff and visitor bays that park for hours, DC rapid charging for fleet vehicles that need to turn around. Back-office, payment and access control are set up to the operator’s requirements, and the installation is certificated to BS 7671 Section 722.

  • Supply capacity and load assessment before any charger is specified
  • 7 kW and 22 kW AC charging for staff, visitor and residents’ bays
  • DC rapid charging for fleet depots and vehicles on turnaround
  • Dynamic load management across bays and alongside building demand
  • DNO notification and application handled in-house, supply upgrades managed
  • Civils, cable containment, bay marking, signage and lighting as one package
  • Integration with solar PV and battery storage where the site has or plans it

EV charging is an electrical load, and on a site with solar PV or battery storage it is the load that makes the generation pay. Rossair installs commercial solar PV and battery energy storage, handles DNO applications and G98/G99 compliance for export, and designs charging into the same single-line diagram. For an estate on a decarbonisation programme - the Wembley Health Centre took a live NHS building fully off gas - the car park is part of the plan, not an afterthought.

Compliance

Compliance documentation included in every contract

  • BS 7671 722IET Wiring Regulations Section 722 - electric vehicle charging installations, including PEN fault protection.
  • IET CoPIET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation.
  • DNODistribution Network Operator notification and application for new charging load and supply upgrades.
  • Smart Charge RegsElectric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021 - compliant charge points for private charging.
  • NICEICNICEIC-registered installer - Electrical Installation Certificates issued under the scheme.
  • G98/G99Grid connection compliance where charging is installed alongside solar PV or battery storage.
Frequently asked

Questions about commercial EV charger installation

Does our building have enough electrical supply for EV chargers?
Often not for the number of bays first asked for, which is why Rossair starts with a load assessment of the incoming supply and the building’s actual demand profile. From that we size the charging, design dynamic load management so the chargers share whatever capacity is spare, and advise whether a DNO supply upgrade is worth it. We handle the DNO application if it is.
What is the difference between 7 kW, 22 kW and rapid charging?
7 kW single-phase AC adds roughly 25 to 30 miles of range per hour and suits staff who park all day. 22 kW three-phase AC roughly triples that, for visitor bays and vehicles that can take it. DC rapid charging, from 50 kW upwards, charges a fleet vehicle in under an hour and needs a substantial supply. The use case sets the specification, and most workplace sites are best served by a mix.
How long does a commercial EV charger installation take?
A handful of AC chargers on an existing supply with short cable runs can be installed in a few days. A fleet depot with rapid charging, a supply upgrade and civils is a programme of weeks to months, and the DNO lead time is usually the critical path. The survey sets out the realistic timeline before anything is ordered.
Is there government funding for workplace EV chargers?
UK government grant schemes for workplace and fleet charging have changed several times. Rossair advises on whatever scheme is open at the time of the survey and prepares the installation paperwork the grant requires, but we do not build a business case on a grant that may close before the install.
Can EV charging be combined with solar PV or battery storage?
Yes. Charging is the ideal daytime load for rooftop solar, and battery storage lets a site charge vehicles off peak or protect a constrained supply. Rossair installs commercial solar PV and battery energy storage and designs the charging into the same electrical scheme, with DNO and G98/G99 compliance handled together.
Who maintains the chargers after installation?
Rossair can add the charge points to an electrical maintenance contract, with periodic inspection, firmware and back-office checks and reactive cover for contract clients. Manufacturer warranties are registered at commissioning and the installation certificate and O&M information go into your compliance pack.
