Marks and Spencer is a major British multinational retailer specialising in the selling of clothing, home furnishings and luxury food products. Founded in 1884 M&S has been a leading household name for decades.
The company’s store at Culverhouse Cross Retail Park in Cardiff is the park’s flagship store.
The Work
The M&S store had, over the years, received several complaints from shoppers regarding the very cold temperatures in the food hall aisles.
In August 2014, Rossair was commissioned by the company to create a more pleasant shopping experience for their customers by raising the ambient temperature of the chilled food isles.
Rossair installed new ceiling mounted air handling units, which were ducted to the cold aisles and delivering heat to the base of the fridge units; delivered at a determined speed it allowed the center of the fridge aisles to warm up without effecting the cooling of the food and the fridge units.
In addition, Rossair installed a LTHW system with a dedicated boiler to supply the required heat.
Throughout the two-month project, weekly update reports were provided to the client who also attended site and provided Rossair with any snagging lists to complete.
On completion of the works, in October 2014, a full O&M manual and “as installed drawings” were provided to the client. M&S staff also received basic training on the newly installed equipment.
