The Client
Midas Retail is part of the Midas Group. The group operates nationally across a variety of food and non-food retail environments, delivering construction solutions on both large and small-scale projects.
Its client, Next, is a British multinational clothing, footwear and home products retailer. The group has some 502 stores in the UK and Ireland and is the largest clothing retailer by sales in the United Kingdom.
Over the next two years, Next Retail is rolling out a new shop design for its aging stores to a newer model and specification.

The Work
In January 2015, Rossair was commissioned by Midas to upgrade the Next store located in Bluewater, the UK’s fourth largest shopping center.
Rossair removed all redundant plant and materials from the site, including HRUs located on the roof and refurbished AHUs on the roof plant deck.
In addition new WC’s and all associated works were fitted, new wall mounted air conditioning units and ducted units were also installed while the store’s smoke extract system was modified.
A new BMS system including panel and all associated field wiring was installed.
The Challenges
While working in shopping center environment presented its own set of challenges the main one was the reduction in programme time; the initial 20-week programme was shortened to 13 weeks due to sales and Christmas trading. To complete works in time Rossair doubled its workforce and implemented day-night shift schedule.
